Notary Juan Madridejos Velasco
About me
After obtaining my Law Degree with numerous Honours at the Complutense University of Madrid, I decided to prepare for the notary public examinations at the Matritense Academy of Notaries, motivated by family inspiration, as my father and grandfather have been notaries.
After four and a half years of intense preparation, I was appointed Notary in 2018, achieving number 4 in my examination board. After that, I began my profession as a Notary in Extremadura, at the Notary Office of San Vicente de Alcántara.
Subsequently, I moved to Barcelona, founding JLA Notaries together with my partner, also a Notary, Luis Alberto Álvarez Moreno, in 2020.
What I like most about my profession is the possibility of tackling complex and diverse legal problems and finding solutions that help our clients provide the best legal solution to their needs.
My specialities are: Civil Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, Taxation, Notarial Law and Land Registry Law. Within these branches at JLA Notaries we specialise in numerous specific procedures, such as inheritances, sales, mortgages and company formation, as well as many other notarial services and procedures.
At our notary's office, we can help you with these procedures both in person and online.
Additionally, I combine my work with the preparation of several candidates for notary exams at the Academia Matritense del Notariado. In my free time, I am passionate about technology, travel, and scuba diving. If you need a notary who speaks English, you can count on me.

My Publications and Media Appearances
I have made some publications in the Cuadernos de Derecho y Comercio magazine, a biannual magazine published by the Consejo General del Notariado, with a more technical character.
Additionally, weekly or biweekly I write articles for the JLA Notarios blog, with the aim of providing the public with legal information that is of quality but also understandable for the general public.
Alongside these two activities, I have participated in some conferences and in print and digital media. As an example, and not exhaustively:
- The donation from parents for a first home can save on taxes in Crónica Global
- The pledge of credit rights and the assignment of credits as security. The pledge on future credits together with my colleague Luis Alberto for Cuadernos de Derecho y Comercio

How to calculate the inheritance tax and not miss any tax benefits. A brief guide to calculating the ISD.
In the previous article we introduced in our blog the Inheritance Tax and discussed its regulations and the procedures that must be carried out for its payment. But…
Inheritance tax: How much do I have to pay for inheriting?
The Inheritance Tax (ISD) is a tax paid by the person who receives assets and rights through inheritance, legacy or any other succession title.
At our notary office in the centre of Barcelona, we continuously receive questions about how much one has to pay for receiving an inheritance, so we have decided to prepare this article to help understand the basics of this tax. This article is updated as of early December 2022.
As an introduction, we can state that, although people usually think it is a tax where you pay a lot for inheriting, the truth is that, compared to other taxes, it is one of the few taxes where it is normal to pay a low percentage on what is received. This is because there are many rules that allow the application of numerous reductions and allowances which, if applied correctly, will greatly reduce the amount of money that inheritors have to pay, it is common not to have to pay anything or almost nothing for inheriting, especially if the inheritance is from parents to children. Therefore, it is very important to calculate the Inheritance Tax accurately.
Who pays the IBI in a sale and purchase?
If you are thinking about buying or selling a property, it is normal to wonder what taxes and levies you must pay. One of the most frequently asked questions in the office is, without a doubt, the Property Tax or IBI and who pays the IBI in a sale, specifically, about who should pay the one corresponding to the year in which the sale of the property takes place.
Processing an inheritance in five steps
One of the main issues that many clients raise in notarial offices is the need to find a solution to a matter as important as the incapacity of a family member, or that which the interested party themselves may suffer in the future, due to the patrimonial and personal consequences involved.
